On Wednesday, 19th January, Ninestiles, An Academy welcomed representatives from the Royal Navy’s Engagement Team to the school to talk to Year 8 students.
The team held an assembly, during which they gave a presentation about the different roles in the Royal Navy, what service life is like, the educational gains, sporting and social opportunities that being in the navy offers, and a general oversight into the careers available to Royal Navy personnel.
Around 60 students then took part in a STEM workshop called ‘Stranded at Sea’ where they had to work together to design a signal flair.
Mr Hughes visited the groups who took part and was very impressed with what they’d made. He said, “It was great to have representatives from the Royal Navy in to talk to Year 8 students. I hope their presentation got the students thinking about their future career options and I know the workshop was a fantastic opportunity for them to develop their teamwork skills. Hopefully, some budding engineers were revealed from the challenge to create a signal flair!”
