Knowledge development:Throughout the year, students will be equipped with the knowledge to develop their health and well-being so that they are able to live long, healthy and happy lives.In Year 9, 6 topics will be covered, with a focus on social well-being. Skill/tactical development: Throughout the year, students will be taught advanced skills in sport as well as develop their knowledge and understanding of tactics and rules through a breadth of activities to find sports and activities that appeal to them and encourages lifelong participation. Students will be given the opportunity to assess their own and others’ performance. Sports may include, but not limited to:Striking/fielding (i.e. cricket/rounders/softball), Rugby, Football, Basketball, Alternative activities, Athletics, Fitness, Table tennis, Dance. |
ASSESSMENTS(Minimum two per half term, with focussed marking.) |
Summative assessment will occur in line with the trust assessment dates and will cover topics taught until that assessment, This will be reported home to parents.Formative assessment will take place at the end of each topic to assess the knowledge that has been learned. This will be done via a viva voce – oral assessment using Q&A to maximise time to be active in lessons will include questioning, feedback, progress checks against success criteria and learning intention and retrieval practice. This will be reported home to parents between summative assessments. Skills/tactics will only be assessed formatively via questioning, live feedback, progress checks against success criteria, retrieval practice and self/peer assessment of skill technique. |

Before and after school clubs and competitions are made available to all students to develop skills/tactics further and show a commitment to their physical, mental and social well-being.Gifted and talented students are given links to local teams/clubs to develop their skills further. In Year 7, students will have learned how to keep the body healthy and why physical well-being is so important. In Year 8 they will have learned how to keep the mind healthy and why mental well-being is so important. They will now develop knowledge on how exercise can promote positive relationships with othersStudents will already know the importance of exercise in promoting happiness and reducing stress and depression. They will now develop techniques such as growth mind-sets, relaxation, mindfulness and mental imagery to stay healthy. Links will be made between sporting and academic performance and how using mental techniques used by sportspeople can be transferred into success in other areas of life. |

Healthy Active Lifestyles is a subject for all as it will benefit everyone, no matter what career path they take. If students are able to understand how to look after their bodies and minds, they will be able to stay healthy and happy in life. The knowledge learned in Year 9 will support students to succeed in other subjects by developing social skills.The knowledge learned in Year 9 will support any student who wants to pursue a career in health and well-being, such as nursing, mental health practitioners and personal training. The skills learned will support any student who wants to pursue a career in sport, such as PE teaching, coaching, sports performer. |
