Curriculum Intent
Our vision is to inspire, engage and challenge students in a rich and creative curriculum. Through the subject disciplines of Art, Design, Craft, Resistant Materials, Textiles, Graphic Communication, Photography and Food Nutrition, we aim to offer a breadth of opportunities to experiment, invent and create through various practical specialisms.
Learners will explore how Art, Design and Technology has shaped history and how its value and importance contributes to society and culture today, as well as through critical and contextual understanding. Thus, learners will be exposed to a safe and stimulating environment where there is emphasis on potential, success and achievement for all.
How are students assessed in your subjects?
We use ongoing practical assessment with specific end of topic assessments at key points in both key stages.
PPE mock examinations are also run throughout Years 10 and 11 to prepare learners for their final examination.
What is the homework policy in your subject?
All Faculty homework tasks are posted on TEAMS as follows:
Key Stage 3 Art, craft & Design: One piece of homework is issued every two weeks for learners in Years 7, 8 and 9. Students choose the task which they would like to complete from a menu of tasks, this work is to be completed in learners’ homework sketchbooks.
Key Stage 3 Design & Technology: One piece of homework is issued every two weeks for learners in Years 7, 8 and 9. Students choose the task which they would like to complete from a menu of tasks, this work is to be completed in learners’ homework booklet.
Key Stage 4: In Years 10 and 11, learners are set one task per week to complete. This work will contribute towards their examination coursework and will be completed in either their sketchbooks for all GCSE Art options or in an exercise book for the Hospitality and Catering courses.
What are the extra-curricular opportunities available from your subject?
We offer a wide range of extra-curricular clubs for our Key Stage 3 learners running between 3pm and 4pm. Please check with your class teacher for the dates and times of the current range of activities being run for this term.
At Key Stage 4, coursework clubs are offered to all learners and there is an expectation that these are attended weekly by learners in both Years 10 and 11. Please check with your class teracher for the evening which your chosen examination option club is taking place on.
