Transition: Questions Answered

Will I get lost?

Probably – it is a big school! There are lots of signs and people to help you and you will have a map in your planner to guide you. Usually, after a couple of weeks (or once through the timetable) students know where they are going.

What if I lose my belongings?

There are lockers in school which you can use. They are available on a first come, first served, basis and you will need a padlock to lock your things away. If you do misplace something, ask a friend or a member of staff to help you, and if you still cannot find it, go to Student Welfare who will help you look through the lost property.

Will I be in the same tutor group as my friends and if not when will I see them?

It is not guaranteed that you will be in the same tutor group as your friends. However, even if you are not in the same class as your friends, you will still be able to see them at break and lunchtime and at after school clubs.

What extra-curricular activities are there on offer?

There are approximately 70 extra-curricular clubs on offer at Ninestiles. We highly recommend that you attend at least one extra-curricular club a week. Your tutor will regularly inform you of what is taking place each half term.

Can I use my mobile phone and other electronic devices in school?

No, mobile phones and other electronic devices are not permitted on the school premises at any time.

How do students get detentions and why?

Students who are in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing do not get detentions. If you do not behave well, do not work hard enough, are not in full and correct uniform, or are disrespectful to adults, then you can expect to find yourself in detention.
