Year 7 Literacy and Numeracy Catch Up Premium


The literacy and numeracy catch up premium gives schools additional funding to support year 7 students who did not achieve 100 in the standardised test score in English and/or Maths at the end of year 6.


For the financial year 2019/2020 Ninestiles, An Academy received funding of £22, 305 for Catch Up Premium related activities. Expenditure was aimed directly at improving provision for students that attract the premium which in turn further strengthened the ‘Quality First Teaching’ methodology held by the Academy. In brief we have been able to use the funds to:


Purchase numeracy support software such as Hegarty Maths and Timetable Rockstars


  • Engage an English and EAL specialist to support development of language for those with low literacy levels on entry
  • Provide targeted small group specialist tuition to aid progress and attainment in English; helping to plug gaps in learning and/or tackle underachievement
  • Share appropriate age related reading texts with all catch up premium students
  • Provide additional support to improve literacy through individualised ‘Catch up’ reading programs
  • Strengthen our literacy strategy through effective resourcing of our comprehensive academic language programme and Love to Read initiative
