Curriculum Intent
Our vision in Healthy Active Lifestyles is to cultivate a lifelong love for physical activity in every learner, ultimately contributing to the overall well-being and success of our learners. We strive to provide an inclusive and supportive environment where learners can explore a variety of physical activities, fostering both enjoyment and personal growth. Through a diverse and engaging curriculum that promotes physical literacy, personal development, and personal well-being, we aim to inspire a positive attitude and curiosity towards physical activity and exercise.
At Key Stage 3, learners become proficient in both the rules and regulations, as well as the core and advanced skills across a variety of sports. They first develop a solid foundation of technical abilities, understanding the key principles of each sport, including gameplay, strategies, and the role of teamwork. Once these fundamental skills are mastered, learners progress to applying tactics and strategic thinking in real-game scenarios.
In Key Stage 4, learners are split into our three pathways: Competitive, Participation and Active. In our Competitive pathway, learners are trained in advanced skills and tactics specific to various sports, with a focus on outsmarting opponents and winning games. This approach emphasizes high-level performance, teaches strategic thinking, technical proficiency, and in-depth knowledge of the rules and nuances of each sport. In our Participation pathway, learners are introduced to various methods to stay physically active and engage in sports. This approach emphasizes inclusivity, offering a wide range of activities suited to different interests, abilities, and fitness levels. In our Active pathway, learners are encouraged to maintain a healthy, balanced lifestyle through regular exercise while making physical activity enjoyable. This approach emphasizes the importance of staying active not just for fitness, but also for overall well-being and happiness. At Key Stage 4, learners also have the opportunity to study OCR Cambridge Nationals Sports Science.
